Objectives: Providing the support and practical assistance to help participants to manage time and stress in the workplace by introducing powerful and flexible tools for use by both individuals and teams. This will include developing skills in prioritising, planning and delegating. Participants will have an opportunity to examine their own time stealers, wasters and pressures and making a link between poor time management and increase in stress. A number of time management tools will be introduced. Deal effectively and professionally with complaints and handle difficult and aggressive callers. This course can be run with the emphasis more on time or stress or be developed as either topic on its own.

Who should attend: People who are facing increasing work related time pressures and are struggling to keep up with workloads. Those who are experiencing increased levels of personal stress or who are responsible for others and can identify stress levels rising in the team.

Overview of Content

Understanding the concepts of time: What is time management and whose responsibility is it? Where does time go? - examining the time pressures and time wasters. Time management self assessment exercise to identify weakness’ and strengths.

Dealing with time stealers: Identifying time stealers and learning how to deal with them.

Managing interruptions effectively: Using good quality assertive communication when dealing with interruptions including making and receiving requests.

The planning process: Identifying different types of planning tools to aid the management of long term time planning.

Time Management tools: An examination of a range of tools for effective time management including: To do lists, Priority grids, single paper handling, time logs and balancing workloads grids and diary management.

Focus on stress: Stress management self assessment to identify specific problem areas.

Balancing workloads: How to balance your own workload and that of others.

Challenging the stress chain: How to stop the downward spiral of stress by challenging the thinking and feeling behind it.
