Summary:  This Introductory course will provide an insight into to the basic tools and uses of Quark XPress enabling participants to get a grasp of the software.

Pre-requisites: All attendees  to the Introduction to Quark XPress course must be proficient in either the Macintosh or Windows environments. No previous experience of DTP is required but an understanding of layout and design would be beneficial.

Start & Finish Times: 10am to 5pm

Objectives: This hands-on Introductory course will enable participants to identify and describe the component features that collectively make up the Quark application. The course is designed to introduce the delegate to Quark ’s text and graphic layout tools enabling users to build and format a range of document layout styles and prepare them for printing or export.

Who should attend: Our ‘Introduction’ course is designed for busy people who need to know how to get the best from their applications from the outset. If you are new to Quark or are not yet comfortable with producing layouts with text and Graphics, then this course will put you on track.

Basics of document handling and layout: Creating and saving documents, Working with pages, Grids, Guides, Rulers

Colour: Colour palette, Adding colours, Editing colours, Apply colour, Gradients, Fills / stokes

Text: Basic text entry, Text boxes, Basic text formatting, Importing text, Positioning and linking text boxes

Type: Character formatting styles, Paragraph formatting styles, Creating and editing H & J’s, Optical margin alignment, Leading, tracking & kerning, Kerning table, ligatures, fractions, punctuation, indentation, justification, hyphenation

Tabs: Tabs and tab characters, Tab leaders, Tabs palette

Images: Image boxes, Image files, Text wrapping options
